OB vs OB-1: Why the Similar Names Are Not Enough
OB and OB-1 have different C.I. and CAS identities in the SUNWAY catalogue. Compare documents and processing requirements before treating either as a substitute for the other.
Keep identifiers on every document
The model suffix is small, but the distinction matters. Match the table below to the sample label, quotation and technical sheet. If the purchasing request uses only “OB”, clarify whether that is a specific grade or a shorthand for optical brightener. Retain the exact product identity through the order so the material delivered can be traced to the material that was evaluated.
Compare the intended substrate and process
Review the relevant product page as a starting point, then describe the actual polymer, coating or textile context to the supplier. Similar family descriptions do not establish identical solubility, dispersion or processing behaviour. Do not use the melting point alone as a complete description of a safe or effective processing window. The supplied grade’s current technical documentation and representative evaluation remain necessary.
Avoid comparing two moving targets
Record which factors are held constant and which product variable is being evaluated. The responsible technical team should decide the test design and operating conditions using the relevant documents. If the substrate, process and grade all change together, the result may not reveal which change caused the observed difference. Keep the reference sample and the evaluation method stable enough to support the decision you want to make.
State the limits of a substitution decision
An acceptable result for one formulation is not a general interchangeability statement. Record the grade and form, agreed specification, application and trial conditions behind the decision. When any of those changes, review whether the original evaluation still applies. Confirm supply and packaging separately, and do not assume that current documents for one model also cover the other.
Catalogue identity cross-check
This table uses the current site catalogue to identify grades and supplied forms. It is not an equivalence statement, performance ranking or production recommendation.
Bring these points to the discussion
- Clarify “OB” as a model, not a category abbreviation.
- Match each model to its own current documents.
- Limit substitution conclusions to the tested context.
Catalogue information supports initial selection. Request the current TDS/SDS and evaluate a representative sample before production.

Product identities are grounded in the linked Sunway Chemicals catalogue pages. The purchasing framework is guidance for discussion; grade suitability, processing and current requirements must be reviewed by the responsible parties.
