OB-1 vs KSN: How to Compare Grades for a Real Process

OB-1 and KSN have different catalogue identities. Compare exact grades, forms and trial results under the same conditions; neither the model name nor a general marketing comparison establishes the better choice for your process.

Confirm which two products are being compared

Begin with the identifiers in the table below, then match them to the quotation and sample label. A comparison of chemical names is not necessarily a comparison of equivalent commercial products. Record the supplier, sample batch, physical form and specification basis. If any of those items is unclear, resolve it before interpreting performance or price differences. A current technical sheet should accompany each actual sample under evaluation.

Make the process description specific

A polymer name alone is not a complete application brief. State the material grade, recycled or virgin content where relevant, colour background, addition route and subsequent thermal history. Keep confidential formulation information within your agreed technical exchange rather than a public inquiry. The aim is to establish which conditions the comparison must represent, not to apply a temperature or loading range taken from an unrelated product page.

Compare evidence before assigning a winner

Use the same substrate, reference and evaluation method when reviewing two candidates. Compare appearance and the properties required by your end use, with the technical team selecting appropriate tests. Claims about better whiteness, fastness or compatibility need a stated method and conditions. This guide does not assign a universal performance ranking to OB-1 and KSN, and catalogue descriptions should not replace a representative trial.

Compare purchasing on the same basis

A price per kilogram can be misleading when commercial form, packaging or usable specification differs. Ask for quotations against the same quantity, destination and packaging assumptions. Record sample costs, document availability and delivery conditions separately. Make a purchasing decision only after the acceptable grade and trial outcome are clear; do not assume that a lower unit price means a lower application cost.

Catalogue identity cross-check

This table uses the current site catalogue to identify grades and supplied forms. It is not an equivalence statement, performance ranking or production recommendation.

Bring these points to the discussion

  • Use one substrate and reference.
  • Ask for comparable specification and quotation bases.
  • Keep performance claims tied to a documented test.

Catalogue information supports initial selection. Request the current TDS/SDS and evaluate a representative sample before production.
